The French Foreign Ministry emphasized that Ukraine did not ask to send Western troops. At the same time, nothing can be ruled out in the coming months.
French troops in Ukraine
As noted, during the visit to Lithuania, French MFA Stephane Sejournay met with his Baltic and Ukrainian colleagues.
In particular, Sejourne repeatedly mentioned demining operations as a possibility, saying that it "may mean the presence of some personnel, but not to fight."
What is known about Macron's statement about sending troops to Ukraine
French President Emmanuel Macron did not rule out that NATO could send troops to help Ukraine. The main problem, he said, is that there is currently no consensus on this issue.
A number of NATO countries opposed this idea, in particular, Germany, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Poland, Spain and Italy. At the same time, there are countries that are ready to consider such a possibility, for example, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
Canada, which is also a member of NATO, declared that it is ready to send troops to Ukraine, but only to train Ukrainian defenders in the territory far from the front.
