WP: The US Congress may ignore the issue of assistance to Ukraine in the project on temporary financing

US Congress

Currently, representatives of the Republican Party in the House of Representatives of the US Congress are close to indefinitely burying the issue of further military aid to Ukraine in the most critical period.

What is known about the threat to military aid to Ukraine from the US

According to the journalists, Ukraine lacks neither funds nor time in the criminal war unleashed by the Kremlin.

At the same time, it seems that the US Congress is currently not at all interested in further financing Ukrainian resistance to Russian aggression.

Growing competition from other national security priorities, including Israel and the US southern border, could be the death knell for continued American aid to its ally, the publication said.

Members of Congress have less than a week to develop and consider a bill on short-term financing of government agencies to prevent a shutdown.

Even if it is approved, Congress will need more than a month to overcome differences and adopt more sustainable financial plans for the coming year.

According to the article's authors, the probability that members of Congress will approve the financing of further military aid to Ukraine is minimal in such chaotic conditions.

The article notes that this will lead to catastrophic geopolitical consequences and could undermine the White House's policy in Europe, convincing everyone else that the Kremlin dictator and war criminal Vladimir Putin was right and the determination of Western powers to resist Russian aggression in Ukraine will collapse.

Because of the political crisis in Congress, the Pentagon carefully "measured" the funds to help Ukraine in security at about 1 billion dollars.

The latest aid packages totalled less than $200 million, compared to previous arms shipments of $1 billion or more.

What other problems await Ukraine without help from the United States

In addition, the authors of the article note that next year, Ukraine will face a massive state budget deficit of $35 billion, and EU countries are expected to be able to cover only a third of it.

According to American officials, in case of termination of additional financial assistance from the USA, the Ukrainian authorities will be forced to reduce the number of civil servants and liquidate a significant number of departments.

Defenders of Ukraine in both parties try hard to connect the crises in Ukraine and Israel as part of a larger, existential struggle of good versus evil, democracies versus autocracies, that must be faced together.

But without a clear understanding of Ukraine's needs and the role of the United States in ensuring its survival, they fear that the position of the American people will change, the publication says.
