The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) eliminated the military structure of Hamas militants in northern Gaza. It took three months.
What is the situation in Gaza?
According to IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari, the Israeli military will continue to strengthen the barrier and defence on the border, due to which strikes on northern Gaza may continue.
The IDF is now focused on eliminating militants in central and southern Gaza.
He added that the refugee camps in the central part of Gaza are "dense and full of terrorists", and Khan Younis in the south has "an underground city of branching tunnels".
The war between Israel and Hamas
Hamas militants invaded Israel on October 7. Terrorists began to kill and kidnap both military and civilian people. Soon, Jerusalem announced Operation Iron Swords and shelled terrorist sites in the Gaza Strip.
On November 24, a temporary truce began between Jerusalem and the militants for the release of prisoners, and then Qatar acted as a mediator. Already on December 1, hostilities were resumed, as Israel claims, due to a violation of the terms of the truce by Hamas.
On December 20, Israel offered the Palestinians to conclude a truce for a week. But Hamas rejected the offer.
Then, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu named three conditions that must be met for the end of the war against the Palestinian militants Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
On January 1, the IDF began withdrawing five brigades from the Gaza Strip to adapt combat methods to each area.
