The Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) has achieved some success in the Zaporizhzhia region and continues to deter the offensive of the criminal Russian army in the districts of Bakhmut and Avdiivka in the Donetsk region.

What is known about situation on eastern front

According to analysts at the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), during 3-4 January, the Ukrainian military continued to conduct positional battles with occupation army units along the Kupyansk-Svatovo-Kremenna front line without any confirmed changes.

In particular, positional battles were fought north-east and east of Kupyansk, in the area of Synkivka, Liman and Petropavlovka, west and south-west of Kremenna, in the areas of Ternivka and Serebryansk Forestry.

According to the commander of the Ground Forces of AFU, Colonel-General Oleksandr Syrskyi, the criminal army of Russia is regrouping and launching numerous strikes with guided aerial bombs in the direction of Lyman.

At the same time, analysts confirm the recent advance of Russian invaders north-west of Bakhmut.

Geolocation data as of 2 January confirms that Russian war criminals have advanced north of the Bakhmut-Khromovo road between Bohdanivka and Khromovo.

According to Syrskyi, intense fighting continues in the Bohdanivka area and Russian troops are trying to advance towards Chasovyi Yar.

ISW analysts also cite Ukrainian and Russian sources reporting positional fighting northwest of Bakhmut near Bohdanivka and Khromove, west of Bakhmut near Ivanivske, and southwest of Bakhmut near Kurdyumivka, Klischiivka, and Andriivka.

Experts also draw attention to the occupiers' recent statements about an offensive southwest of Avdiivka.

According to analysts, geolocation data indicates that Russian war criminals have managed to reach a small fortification on the north-western bank of the Izmailivsk pond on the outskirts of Pervomaiske, south-west of Avdiivka.

In addition, positional fighting is taking place north-west of Avdiivka, in the area of Novobakhmutivka, Stepove, Berdychiv, on the north-western and southeastern outskirts of Avdiivka, as well as south-west of Avdiivka, in the area of Nevelske and Pervomaiske.

Analysts also point to recent successes and advances by the Russian occupiers southwest of Donetsk.

Geolocation data as of 3 January indicates that the Russian army has achieved limited success southeast of Pobyeda, approximately 10 km southwest of Donetsk.

Ukrainian and Russian sources reported that positional fighting continued to the west and southwest of Donetsk.

What is known about situation on the southern front

IWJ analysts note that the Ukrainian military and the Russian occupiers are engaged in positional battles on the border of Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions, but without confirmed changes on the front line.

Positional fighting continued south-west of Velyka Novoselivka, near Pryiutyne and west of Staromayorske.

According to analysts, on 3 January, the Ukrainian military managed to achieve minor success in the western part of Zaporizhzhia region.

On 3 January, positional fighting continued on the left-bank of the Kherson region, but no confirmed territorial advance was recorded in this area. Russian and Ukrainian troops continued to meet in the battles near Krynky.
