On January 7, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Yoko Kamikawa, will visit Ukraine and hold meetings in Kyiv with government officials, in particular, with her Ukrainian colleague Dmytro Kuleba.
What is known about the visit of Yoko Kamikawa
It is noted that during the visit, Minister Kamikawa will once again emphasize to the Ukrainian side that Japan's consistent policy of supporting Ukraine remains unchanged even in the current complicated international situation. Yoko Kamikawa will also inform the Ukrainian side about the details of the planned assistance.
According to information, Japan is determined to demonstrate its commitment to the restoration of Ukraine and, on February 19, will hold a Japanese-Ukrainian conference on promoting economic reconstruction in Japan with the personal participation of the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal.
During the visit, the Japanese minister will consult with Ukrainian partners on expanding cooperation between the two countries.
During this visit, Ms. Kamikawa will participate in a large-scale power equipment handover ceremony to help prepare for winter. She will visit a women's and children's aid centre to highlight the importance of women's active participation as leaders in peacebuilding.
Financial assistance from Japan
On December 6, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced during the G7 meeting that Japan would provide Ukraine with $4.5 billion, including this additional support and credit enhancement for World Bank loans. $1 billion, in particular, will go to humanitarian aid and reconstruction of Ukraine.
On December 7, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that Kyiv expects the first part of this aid — $1.5 billion — in January 2024. A significant part of this aid package will be transferred in the spring.
