Kyiv suffers major internet outages after Russian missile attack

Due to the Russian missile strike on the morning of 2 January, "significant interruptions" in Internet connectivity were recorded in Kyiv. It is noted that this is the most serious case in recent months.

Internet failure in the capital

This was reported by Netblocks, a service that monitors Internet connections, on social network X.

The indicators show significant disruptions in internet connectivity in Kyiv amid new Russian missile attacks targeting civilian and critical infrastructure in the capital, the report said.

The service stressed that this incident is the most serious failure in recent months.

According to an infographic published by the service, internet availability has dropped 80% lower normal levels.

Consequences of Russian missile attack on Ukraine on January 2

In the morning, a series of explosions took place in Kyiv and Kharkiv. The Russian occupiers fired 83 missiles at Ukraine, and the air defence forces destroyed 72 air targets.

In Kyiv, fires were reported in 8 districts. Two multi-storey residential buildings caught fire in the Solomensk district. One woman was killed and 33 people were injured as a result.

In Kyiv region, 2 people were killed and 11 others were injured, including a child.

Kharkiv was attacked by Iskander mobile short-range ballistic missile systems damaging about 25 civilian infrastructure facilities and multi-storey buildings. 45 civilians were injured and one person was killed.

A massive Russian attack on 2 January left more than 250,000 consumers in Kyiv and the region without electricity. There are no plans to use emergency outage schedules.
