According to Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs, Moscow seeks to regain control over the Baltic states and Finland.

What is known about the Kremlin's intentions regarding aggression against the Baltic states and Finland

Commenting on the statement of the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine, Oleksandr Lytvynenko, regarding Moscow's preparations for an attack on the Baltic states, Rinkevichs noted that the Kremlin is also preparing for aggression against Finland.

According to him, judging by the narratives of the Kremlin propaganda and the statements of several Russian officials, the criminal regime of the Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin dreams of reviving the Russian Empire not only by returning the Baltic states, Kazakhstan or Moldova under its control but also seeking to establish control over Finland.

They don't talk about the Soviet Union, because they dream about the Russian Empire of the 19th century, the President of Latvia notes.

What is known about NATO's decision to protect against Russian aggression

According to him, based on the results of the NATO summits in Madrid and Vilnius, decisions were made to increase the Alliance's military presence on the eastern borders.

For the moment, we can see that this will indeed be a strategic goal for Russia if they believe that they have won in Ukraine. It is not necessary that they will win, but they will think that they have won, and then there will probably be a temptation to test the strength of NATO. But that is why we are doing everything we can to prepare, Rinkēvičs emphasized.

He noted that the allies had learned a lot from the experience of Ukraine, and for now, Latvia has time to strengthen NATO's presence and its defense.
