The West is delaying helping Ukraine, because some Western politicians are driven by a possible fear of Russia or of Russia's defeat and what might happen next.
Why the West can delay the aid to Ukraine
Landsbergis believes that the centre of the problem is that the West has not yet dared to say what the purpose of the war in Ukraine is for the West. "As one of the ways, I say this: not 'as much as needed' (to support Ukraine, ed.), but 'to victory, whatever it costs,'" he said.
According to him, having determined the goal, it is necessary to decide on the means of its achievement.
The aid reduction to Ukraine
According to the data of the Kiel Institute of the World Economy, the amount of new aid allocated to Ukraine from August to October 2023 was sharply reduced: the total value of the new packages amounted to only 2.11 billion euros, which is 87% less compared to the same period in 2022, the lowest amount from January 2022.
At the same time, according to the Kyiv International Sociology Institute survey, the majority of Ukrainians (58%) believe that in the event of a significant reduction in Western aid, hostilities should continue to put pressure on the occupiers, even considering the risks to the territories controlled by Ukraine.
