Self-proclaimed Belarusian dictator Oleksandr Lukashenko supported amendments to the law on the president and guaranteed himself immunity, lifelong protection and the right to state real estate after resignment.
Lukashenko guaranteed himself additional security measures and immunity
The amendments provide for bringing the law into line with the updated Constitution and, among other things, define guarantees for the president and his family, particularly after the end of his term of office.
What privileges did Lukashenko guarantee himself?
In particular, after the termination of his powers, the president gets the right to:
the status of a delegate of the All-Belarusian People's Assembly, and with his consent — a life member of the Council of the Republic (does not apply to the president, who stopped exercising his powers amid the inability to perform his duties due to his health);
lifelong state protection;
immunity, "cannot be prosecuted for acts committed in connection with the exercise of his presidential powers", cannot be detained or brought to trial in connection with this; in addition, his family members will also have immunity;
inviolability of residential and office premises, transport, means of communication, other property, documents of the ex-president and his family;
former "presidential" medical service and transport service;
life and health insurance at the expense of budget funds;
a lifetime monthly allowance equal to the salary of the current president established by law;
receiving state real estate as a gift, particularly plots with capital buildings on them.
In addition, the current amendments establish that only a citizen, not younger than 40 years old, who lived in the republic for at least 20 years before the election and did not have a foreign residence permit, can become the president of Belarus.
