The Mi-8 helicopter belonging to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia fell into a lake in the north of Karelia with three crew members on board.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia noted that the rescuers on snowmobiles and hovercrafts have already surveyed the water area of Lake Onega in the Derevyanoe settlement of Prionezh district.
33 pieces of equipment and more than 140 people were involved in the work. Among them are divers from the center of special risk rescue operations with a diving tolerance of up to 60 m. For work under water, the remote-controlled "Falcon" device, which can dive to a depth of 300 m, will be used.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia added that an experienced crew operated the Mi-8 helicopter with thousands of flight hours.
Three employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations were killed during the accident of the Mi-8 helicopter in Karelia, — said the head of the region, Artur Parfenchikov.
Airplane accidents in Russia
In January 2024, an Mi-8 helicopter made an emergency landing in the Bryansk region near the settlement of Sevsk.
In September, a Su-34 fighter bomber crashed in the Voronezh region. The crew of the plane allegedly managed to eject.
In the same month, a Russian Su-24 bomber crashed in the Volgograd region during a training flight. The fate of the crew is unknown.
In August 2023, an Mi-8 helicopter belonging to the FSB crashed in the Chelyabinsk region, killing at least three people.
