President of Moldova Maia Sandu proposed to the parliament to hold a referendum on the European Union's entry into the country. It can be held in the fall of 2024.

Sandu wants to hold a referendum in Moldova on the EU's entry

I ask the parliament to initiate the organization of a referendum next autumn, in which the vote of the citizens will be decisive. I undertook to do everything in my power to fulfill the mission of European integration. We have received support for this course from the member countries and we need your support, dear Moldovans, in order to succeed, Sandu said in the address.

She added that only EU membership can "ensure peace and the best future for all families and children of Moldova."

In her address, Sandu summarized the results of the last three years and the problems the authorities faced — the coronavirus pandemic, Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and the process of Moldova's European integration.

Sandu also announced in the video that she will participate in the 2024 presidential elections.

December 24 marks precisely three years since Maya Sandu officially took office as the country's president.

The way to resolve the conflict in Transnistria

The ex-head of Moldova's intelligence, Yuri Bricheag, believes that the "Transnistrian conflict" should be resolved only peacefully and that weapons should never be used. Actions should be phased.

There are certain agreements that were adopted with the Russian Federation more than 10 years ago. They must be followed. The Russian army must leave the territory of the independent Republic of Moldova, Bricheag says.

He also added that it is worth starting with diplomatic demands that Russia leave the occupied territory.
