According to the Moldovan government, the Congress of Transnistrian "deputies" and its official address to Russia do not threaten escalation and destabilisation.

Chisinau comments on the congress of "deputies" of Transnistria

The spokesperson of Moldova's government, Daniel Vodă, made a statement on this matter.

He noted that the congress of Kremlin proteges in Tiraspol was an exclusive propaganda event and "a reception that does not deserve live broadcasts by foreign journalists and tense headlines."

This event is planned by those who are on the left side of the Dniester and the Kremlin. We see no danger of destabilisation. We are watching very closely and repeat that this region also wants peace and security, — emphasised Daniel Vodă.

He also noted ironically that the only "tension" of February 28 is the gloomy weather in the country, but not the antics of Putin's henchmen.

What is known about the congress of "deputies" of Transnistria

On February 28, the unrecognised Transnistrian leaders supported an appeal to Russia with a request for "protection from the pressure of Moldova."

In addition, they asked for "help" from several international organisations.

It is essential to understand that this was the first such congress in the last 18 years.

On the eve of this event, there were fears that the "deputies" could call on Moscow to join the unrecognised region of Russia.

However, the authorities of Moldova and Ukraine denied these rumours.

Against this background, the Kremlin did everything possible to increase tension.

For example, the Transnistrian "central electoral committee" at the behest of Moscow announced that more than 97% of Transnistrians supported the future accession of Transnistria to Russia. Also they voted for the preservation of "independence" until the accession to the Russian Federation took place.
