The humanitarian corridor in the Black Sea is working successfully

More than 1,000 ships have already passed through the "Grain Corridor" in the Black Sea.

This was reported by the US Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink.

She emphasized that despite the war with Russia, Ukraine continues to support jobs and business, develop its economy and supply the world with vital goods.

What is known about the operation of the grain corridor

On July 17, 2023, Russia announced the termination of the grain agreement. In response to this, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that the grain corridor should continue to be used, even if Russia withdraws from the agreement.

Oleksiy Danilov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, said on August 4 that Ukraine will send ships with its own grain wherever it deems necessary, and will not ask anyone for permission to do so.

On August 10, the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces announced a temporary humanitarian corridor for merchant ships going to and from the ports of Ukraine.

On August 12, Ukraine opened the registration of merchant ships and their owners, which are ready to take temporary routes to Ukrainian ports in the Black Sea.

Already on August 16, the first ship left the Odesa port after Russia announced the termination of the grain agreement.

On October 26, it was reported about the alleged temporary suspension of the grain corridor, but the Ministry of Infrastructure denied these rumors, noting that Ukrainian ports continue to process ships.

As of mid-November 2023, 100 ships passed through the temporary grain corridor in the Black Sea, and as of early January 2024, 15 million tons of grain were exported from Ukraine.

The UN does not consider the grain corridor stable and predictable, but in fact the same amount of grain is exported through it now as before the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation.
