According to the Austrian publication Express, some who could leave Ukraine were prohibited from going abroad.
However, some Ukrainian men could leave with forged documents, and some used the services of smugglers.
According to representatives of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, 6.3 million citizens left Ukraine after the start of the war.
Most of those who left are women and children.
What is known about the number of Ukrainian men in EU countries
According to Eurostat, there are 650,000 Ukrainian men of conscription age who left Ukraine after the start of the war in 27 EU member states, as well as in Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Norway.
According to the Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs of Germany, after the beginning of the criminal invasion of the Russian army in Ukraine, 221 thousand 571 people from Ukraine aged between 18 and 60 arrived in the country.
Currently, 189,484 Ukrainians of military age who left Ukraine after the start of the war live in Germany.
And this data covers only those who are officially registered.
According to the Ministry's estimates, another 100,000 people have not registered and are in the country illegally.
The situation is similar in Austria — at least 14,000 Ukrainian men left there. Someone with forged documents, someone with the help of smugglers.
It is reported that some of them paid up to 10,000 dollars for a certificate confirming their unfitness for military service.
At the same time, the actual number of men of draft age who escaped may be many times higher.
