One of Russia's largest oil refineries shuts down after drone attack

On March 12, a fire broke out at an oil refinery in the Russian city of Kstovo in the Nizhny Novgorod region due to a drone attack.

It is noted that thanks to a successful attack by drones at a distance of over 800 km, one of the most potent oil refineries in the Russian Federation, "LUKOIL-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez", in the city of Kstovo in the Nizhny Novgorod region, was shut down.

As a result of the attack, which occured around 05:30 local time on Mar. 12, the most important element of the plant was destroyed - one of the oil processing units, which is the key in all technological processes.

The attacked oil refinery near Nizhny Novgorod produced 15 million tons of oil annually, located 800 km from Ukraine.

The importance of this attack should be emphasised by the fact that at the level of 2022, this company processed 15 million tons of oil, which was about 5% of the total volume of Russian refining in general.

Drone attack on Russia on March 12

Explosions and air defence operations were reported in the Russian Kursk, Tula, Voronezh, Oryol, and Belgorod regions. The Russian MOD announced the allegedly downing of 25 drones.

In addition, "preventive measures to prevent terrorist acts" were announced in Bryansk.

Also, a fire broke out near the thermal power plant in St. Petersburg.

At the same time, the oil depot in Oryol continues to leak, there was a leak of oil products.
