Hungarian PM Viktor Orban suggests not to put the issue of Ukraine's accession to the EU on the agenda of the summit in December. He believes "it is clear in advance that there will be no agreement among the countries."
Orbán once again made a series of scandalous statements
Hungary will not promise to start negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union because the rules do not allow such a possibility. Instead, Budapest proposes not to bring up the issue of Ukraine's accession to the EU at all at the summit, which will be held on December 14-15.
Orban claims that it is "clear in advance" that there will be no agreement among the member states on Ukraine's accession to the EU.
According to him, the negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU "do not correspond to the interests of Hungary". He suggests the European Union conclude a strategic partnership agreement with Ukraine and return to the "talk about accession" in a few years.
According to Orbán, if the EU still wants to finance the war, the EU must decide where to get the money for it. According to the Prime Minister, he would support the creation of a common EU fund, in which each member state would contribute its share and be directed to Ukraine.
The position of Hungary regarding Ukraine
It should be noted that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán takes an openly pro-Russian position. He often makes statements discrediting Ukraine.
For example, in May, he said that Ukraine allegedly could not win a war against Russia. At that time, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry replied to Orban that the Kremlin should be happy because the Prime Minister of Hungary removed Russia's responsibility for its aggression against Ukraine.
Recently, the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, threatened to block all aid from the European Union to Ukraine. He also wants to prevent the country from joining the EU itself. In particular, Orban threatens to disrupt the December summit of European Union leaders, which will discuss aid to Kyiv and the issue of starting negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU.
