Law enforcers have launched an investigation into the negligence in connection with the depressurisation of the tunnel at Demiivska underground station in Kyiv.

The police will investigate the reasons for the depressurization of the tunnel at the Demiivska underground station

In connection with the flooding of the tunnels on the Obolonsko-Teremkivska line of the Kyiv Underground, the Podilskyi District Prosecutor's Office of Kyiv has launched a pre-trial investigation into the fact of official negligence that caused grave consequences (part 2 of Article 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

Investigators and prosecutors will establish the circumstances that led to these consequences.

The investigation will also provide a legal assessment of the actions of officials of Kyiv Underground and subcontractors who built the transfer tunnels between Demiivska and Lybidska stations in the floodplain of the Lybid River.

Depressurization of the tunnel at the Demiivska underground station

On 8 December, Kyiv authorities announced the suspension of train traffic on the section between Lybidska and Demiivska stations of the Obolon-Teremkivska underground line.

According to preliminary data, this was done due to the depressurisation of the tunnel and the appearance of cracks in its walls, which led to the flooding of the tunnel in the specified section of the underground.

The repairs are expected to last 6 months. For now, trains on the blue line will only run between Heroiv Dnipra and Lybidska stations (it will be the final station).
