On 29 December, a Russian missile attack in Kyiv damaged the lobby of the Lukyanivska underground station. There were no casualties, and the exit towards Illenko street was temporarily closed.

As a result of the rocket attack on the morning of 29 December, the station was damaged and trains temporarily passed by it without stopping.

The station has now resumed operations for passenger traffic.

However, the exit in the direction of Illienko street is temporarily closed. Instead, the exit towards the Kvadrat shopping centre is open.

The Kyiv City Military Administration reports that thousands of people were in underground stations during the morning rocket attack, and more than 2,500 people were alerted overnight.

During an air raid alert, all lobbies of 46 metro stations are open to the public.

For a more comfortable stay, the stations have folding chairs, modular benches and blankets, as well as 4G internet access.

Consequences of the attack on Kyiv

According to the Kyiv authorities, the air raid alert was announced three times and lasted almost 5 hours in total on December 29.

During the last alarm, Kyiv was attacked by several dozen missiles of various types. They entered the city in waves and from different directions.

In total, more than three dozen aerial targets were hit over Kyiv.

As a result of the rocket attack, one person died, 21 were injured.

Consequences for the districts of the capital:

In the Podil district:

  • a fire broke out in a warehouse over an area of about 3,000 m2. Emergency services are working on the scene.

10 people are currently under the rubble.

In the Svyatoshyn district:

  • a fire in an uninhabited multi-story building was recorded;

  • three cars burned down.

In the Shevchenkivsky district:

  • fire broke out in an unfinished business center building;

  • a residential building was damaged;

  • multiple fires in the territory of a garage complex were put out;

  • a fire occurred in the territory of warehouses;

  • multiple fires in the territory of non-residential buildings were reported.

5 people were rescued from under the rubble of a warehouse in the Shevchenkivsky district.

In the Darnytsky district:

  • a residential high-rise building was damaged;

  • one private house was damaged.
