According to the European Commissioner for Agriculture, Janusz Wojciechowski, excessive agricultural imports from Ukraine to the EU may provoke a new crisis.
Polish authorities again threaten Ukraine over agricultural imports
As Polish journalists from RMF FM found out, Janusz Wojciechowski has already sent a letter with his claims and threats to the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, as well as to the Vice-President of the EC for trade, Valdis Dombrovskis.
This document is the Polish commissioner's position regarding the new EC regulation project on extending the regime of trade preferences for Ukraine.
RMF FM draws attention to the fact that the politician will not support the regulation if official Brussels ignores his proposals. According to preliminary data, discussions on this matter will end on January 9.
What Poland offers in terms of EU trade preferences for Ukraine
As the Polish European Commissioner noted in his letter, he wants the new regulation to contain protective provisions similar to those the EC has already applied once to import Ukrainian rapeseed, corn, sunflower and wheat.
In addition, it is indicated that Janusz Wojciechowski insists on quantitative restrictions on sugar and poultry meat, the import of which, in his opinion, is growing too quickly and can allegedly destabilize the EU market.
He again began to scare official Brussels with a potential crisis, which an excess of imported agricultural products from Ukraine could allegedly provoke.
In his opinion, Russia is primarily to blame for the current situation, which is blocking the Black Sea and pushing Ukraine out of its traditional markets in Asia and Africa.
Janusz Wojciechowski once again called for support for Ukrainian transit to EU seaports, where Ukrainian grain will be transported to African and Asian markets.
