Positional battles are ongoing near the Avdiivka Coke Plant
Russian forces recently made a confirmed advance northwest of Avdiivka, as positional fighting near Avdiivka continued on January 1 and 2.
Geolocation footage published on December 31 indicates that Russian troops have advanced to the northwest of Stepove (north of Avdiivka).
On January 1 and 2, a Russian military blogger claimed that Russian troops had advanced northwest of Avdiivka toward Berdychi and Ocheretne, and Ukrainian military observer Kostyantyn Mashovets said on January 2 that Russian soldiers retreated after initially going toward Berdychi.
Russian and Ukrainian sources reported that positional battles continue northwest of Avdiivka near Novobakhmutivka, Berdychi, near the Avdiivka coke plant, as well as near Stepove, southeast of Avdiivka near the industrial zone, and southwest of Avdiivka near Pervomaiske and Nevelske.
Battles for Avdiivka
According to him, the troops of the Russian Federation continued their offensive along the entire front. Also, they advanced in settlements near the city of Avdiivka, to the north and south of it.
The fall of Avdiivka is possible, but it also depends on the forces of Ukraine, the head of the operational department of the General Staff of Estonia, Colonel Tarmo Kundla said.
Kundla added that Ukraine will decide on further resistance or retreat from the city, but Avdiivka is not yet surrounded.
