As The Times notes, the possible dismissal of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Valery Zaluzhnyi may anger many soldiers, but it is unlikely that Ukrainian soldiers will dare to riot.

Why Zelenskyy is thinking about Zaluzhny's resignation

Journalists drew attention to the recent words of Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy, hinting that not only Zaluzhnyi can be fired.

In addition, at the same time, the head of state added that Ukraine as a whole needs a new team aimed at victory:

I'm talking about a reset, about a replacement; I mean something serious that concerns not one person but the direction of the country's leadership.

According to The Times, the rift between Zelenskyy and Zaluzhnyi became apparent in November 2023 after the AFU Commander-in-Chief declared that the war had reached a stalemate.

Journalists also claim that the president of Ukraine has differences with Zaluzhny because of his request to mobilise half a million people.

Possible resignation of Zaluzhnyi. What to expect from AFU

The publication editors decided to talk to Ukrainian political scientist Volodymyr Fesenko.

According to the expert, Zaluzhnyi's resignation will be extremely unpopular among Ukrainian soldiers and civilians, but there will be no military coup of any kind.

The Ukrainian military is quite disciplined and understands that rebellion in wartime threatens with the danger of military defeat. In addition, not all military leaders support Zaluzhnyi. But there will be strong dissatisfaction both in the army and in society, — the expert explained his opinion.

Journalists also assume that the dismissal of the "iron general" can make him a competitor for the post of president of Ukraine.

Although Valerii Zaluzhnyi has given no indication that he has political ambitions, Zelenskyy's critics see him as a possible replacement.
