Protests erupted in Serbia after the announcement of the victory of the party of incumbent President Aleksandar Vucic in the parliamentary elections.
What is known about the protests due to the results of the parliamentary elections in Serbia
It is noted that according to preliminary results of the vote count, the ruling Serbian Progressive Party won 46.5% of the vote.
However, according to OSCE observers, there were cases of unfair competition, lack of transparency in the local media and vote buying during the elections.
Supporters of the opposition pro-Western bloc demonstrated in disagreement with the election results.
The protest, organised by the opposition coalition Serbia Against Violence, began in Belgrade on 18 December.
What the opposition representatives say
The participants of the rally spoke in front of the Belgrade Assembly building, after which they went to the Republican Election Commission (REC).
They promise to provide evidence of violations in the parliamentary elections.
According to REC member Jovan Rajic, the legitimacy and legality of the electoral process was violated during the processing of votes and due to the activities of the ruling coalition.
He accused the authorities of "carousel" voting and cited cases where entire busloads of "voters" were dropped off at polling stations under guard.
He announced his intention to appeal to the REC to cancel the results, stressing that the event was not a real election, but an imitation.
Vladimir Obradovic, a candidate for mayor of Belgrade from the Serbia Against Violence coalition, said he would not recognise the results of the elections in the capital and claimed that they had been "stolen".
