Hundreds of people in the Netherlands protested after the victory of the party of the far-right populist Geert Wilders.
Protests against the far right in the Netherlands
Several left-wing parties called on the Dutch to demonstrate under the slogan "You are not alone". The protest was held in Utrecht and Amsterdam.
According to DW, Syrian student Judy Karajoli told AFP in an interview that Wilders' election success "scared her a lot."
In her opinion, the far-right Freedom Party is openly racist. Many of the girl's friends are refugees with a view to housing, who are now afraid for their future.
As part of its program, the PVV envisages, in particular, taking away housing permits from Syrian refugees, as some areas of Syria are currently "safe".
Parliamentary elections in the Netherlands
Parliamentary elections were held in the Netherlands on November 22, where Geert Wilders' far-right Freedom Party (PVV) won.
It won 37 seats out of 150 in parliament. It will create the largest faction there.
DW writes that the country faces a complex government formation process, as other political forces exclude the possibility of becoming partners with the PVV.
Wilders previously called for the country's borders to be closed to asylum seekers. The election program of the "Freedom Party" contained, in particular, provisions on the reduction of social support for migrants and the ban on Islamic schools.
Wilders' party also wants to hold a "mandatory referendum" on the issue of the Netherlands leaving the EU.
