The leaders of the European Union at the summit on February 1 will confirm their determination to continue providing "timely, predictable and sustainable military support" to Ukraine.

EU leaders to accelerate the missile supply to Ukraine at the summit

As noted in the draft decision of the summit, the European Council also confirms the urgent need to expedite the ammo and missile supplies.

The draft leaves the question of whether the leaders will also pledge to contribute another 5 billion euros in aid to Ukraine to the European Peace Fund, which was used to finance the supply of arms to Kyiv.

EU members have been debating for several months about the future role of the fund in military aid to Ukraine, with Germany proposing to focus on bilateral aid from individual EU countries.

The agency said that the idea of allocating another €5 billion is included in the draft text in square brackets, indicating that it is still under discussion.

The main topic of the summit in Brussels will be an attempt to reach an agreement on a package of financial assistance to Ukraine for €50 billion for four years, which Hungary blocked at the previous summit in December.

What is known about the supply of missiles to Ukraine

Last year, Ukraine asked Germany for long-range Taurus missiles, capable of destroying targets at a distance of up to 500 km. However, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz opposes such an idea.

At the same time, the German company Taurus Systems GmbH is ready to quickly replenish Germany's long-range missiles in the event of their delivery to Ukraine.

Last week, Great Britain offered Germany to buy Taurus missiles and provide Ukraine with additional Storm Shadow missiles.
