Russia is not able to provide the new army's reserves with equipment — ISW analysts

The Russian defence industry will probably not be able to fully provide new reserves with equipment and weapons, despite the ability of the Russian army to maintain the current pace of operations and efforts to expand it.

Russia's defence industry will not be able to provide equipment for the new army reserves

ISW analysts note that the Russian command considers the reserve component as an "endless pit mistakenly". It is reported that the Russian industry can produce about 250-300 "new and thoroughly modernized" tanks annually.

In addition, Russian factories can repair and operate no more than 250-300 tanks after long storage or after damage in battles.

It is noted that even considering the higher estimates, the Russian defence industry is unlikely to be able to provide equipment for a larger-scale personnel mobilisation, and it will probably have to dramatically increase its capabilities to support larger offensive operations, which will take considerable time.

At the same time, ISW experts continue to believe that Russia will be able to expand its technical base and accumulate resources if it retains the initiative in the entire theater of military operations during 2024, although hardly to such an extent as to provide large masses of mobilized reservists, or conscripts.
