Russian propagandists are trying to impose the image of a "Soviet and Russian" person on the new Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi.

Discreditation campaign against Syrskyi

The Ukrainian disinformation watchdog warns that propagandists are actively looking for Syrsky's relatives in the Russian Federation, "friends of the family", from whom they take comments and distribute them in the information space with the appropriate context.

The main goal of this campaign is to discredit the Central Committee and reduce trust in the Armed Forces.

The Center for Countering Disinformation emphasizes that supporting the campaign that Golovkom is a "Russian man" is playing along with enemy disinformation.

It is important to remember:

  • Syrsky was a part of Valery Zaluzhny's team for a long time.

  • He commanded successful operations, including the liberation of Kyiv region and Kharkiv region. They would not be possible without quality personnel, but a lot depends on the command. So, Syrskyi showed that he was able to achieve results in the war against the Russian Federation

  • Syrsky's team consists of young commanders who have been promoted. This is a prerequisite for systemic improvements in the Armed Forces.

Syrskyi was appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

On February 8, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the dismissal of Valery Zaluzhny from the post of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

I am grateful to General Zaluzhny for two years of protection. I am grateful for every victory we have achieved together, and I thank all Ukrainian soldiers who are heroically fighting this war.

Oleksandr Syrskyi, who commanded the Ground Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces since 2019, has been appointed as the new commander-in-chief.

In the early 2000s, Sirsky commanded the 72nd Mechanized Division in Bila Tserkva.

In 2013, he was the deputy chief of the Main Command Center of the Armed Forces, responsible for cooperation with NATO. At the beginning of the war in eastern Ukraine in 2014, Syrskyi headed the ATO headquarters.
