Recently, there was information that the Russian occupiers formed a 30-kilometer so-called "tsar-train" between Olenivka and Volnovakha. ISW analysts explained what is really happening.

"Tsar-train" in Donetsk region. What was the Russian army up to?

At the persuasion of foreign experts, Russian soldiers built a 30-kilometre barrier of trains in the occupied Donetsk region so that it would serve as a defensive line against future Ukrainian offensives.

Satellite images confirm that it took the occupiers nine months to build it.

What is essential to understand is that this peculiar line of defence stretches from the occupied Olenivka to Volnovakha.

As the DeepState team managed to find out, the soldiers of the Russian Federation gathered more than 2,100 freight cars in a 30-kilometer train.

The first works began in July 2023.

he railway line between Olenivka and Volnovakha is roughly six kilometers from ISW’s current assessed frontline southeast of Novomykhailivka at its closest point and is in an area of the front that was relatively inactive when Russian forces reportedly began construction.

American analysts also accept the assumption that the Russians could assemble the train not for defence but for another purpose.
