Russian helicopter "disappeares from radar" over a lake in Karelia

The Mi-8 helicopter of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation disappeared over a lake in Karelia in northwestern Russia. There were three crew members on board.

Mi-8 helicopter disappeared in Russia

The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia reported that during a training flight over Lake Onega, the Mi-8 helicopter of the North-Western Aviation and Rescue Center of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia stopped communicating.

The Russians have already organized search and rescue operations in the area of Derevyanye village. A group of rescuers on a hovercraft and snowmobiles were sent to the place.

They also said that an An-26 aircraft of the Air Navigation Service with rescuers on board is on standby.

As the TASS propaganda resource was told in operational services, the emergency beacon of the Mi-8 helicopter that disappeared in Karelia is not working.

Airplane accidents in Russia

In January 2024, an Mi-8 helicopter made an emergency landing in the Bryansk region, near the settlement of Sevsk.

In September, a Su-34 fighter-bomber crashed in the Voronezh region. The crew of the plane allegedly managed to eject.

In the same month, a Russian Su-24 bomber crashed in the Volgograd region during a training flight. The fate of the crew is unknown.

In August 2023, an Mi-8 helicopter belonging to the FSB crashed in the Chelyabinsk region, killing at least three people.
