Strikes on the Polish-Ukrainian border: what is known

On 6 November, Polish hauliers went on strike at the Polish-Ukrainian border. Later, they completely blocked the passage of trucks at two checkpoints on the border with Ukraine.

On 9 November, a meeting of government officials and drivers blocking the border with Ukraine took place in Poland, but it ended in nothing. Ukraine offered the Polish authorities to open lanes for empty trucks.

Meanwhile, the Polish government has called on Ukraine to cancel the electronic queue registration for empty trucks. The Polish minister also met with the protesters and offered them a compromise solution to the problem.

On 1 December, the blocked Ukrainian drivers on the Polish border held talks with the consul. On 4 December, the Uhryniv-Dolhobyczow border crossing point opened for empty trucks.

As a result of the protesters blocking the border with Ukraine, exports through these checkpoints decreased by 40%, and the state budget of Ukraine lost UAH 9.3 billion due to non-payment of customs duties.

Later it became known that the trucks blocked at the border with Poland would be returned to Ukraine by rail. In the evening of 7 December, Ukrzaliznytsia sent the first trailer train with trucks to Poland, consisting of 23 platforms with 13 loaded tractors and semi-trailers.

On 11 December, truck traffic was unblocked at the Yagodyn-Dorogusk border between Poland and Ukraine. However, in the evening of the same day, protesters blocked the unblocked crossing with a truck.

On 18 December, Polish carriers resumed blocking the border at the Dorohusk-Yagodyn checkpoint.
