Strike of Polish drivers. 2,000 trucks queue up at the border with Ukraine

Strike

The protesters say they will allow three cars per hour to pass both in the direction of Ukraine and those entering Poland. However, the number of vehicles on the Polish-Ukrainian border had not decreased over the previous day.

Queues of trucks at Polish border with Ukraine remain long

Since 4 January, Polish protesters have been blocking the Medyka border crossing point with Ukraine. Around 2,000 trucks are queuing up now to enter Ukraine.

Andriy Demchenko, spokesman for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, said this during the telethon.

Yesterday, after 9am, the blockade at the Polish Medyka checkpoint was resumed. On the Ukrainian side, it is the Shehyni checkpoint. The blockers are located at a certain distance, about 500 metres from the border line, standing on the road, blocking the movement of freight transport, said the spokesman.

According to him, three other checkpoints on the border between Ukraine and Poland are also blocked by Polish protesters. There are about 1,400 trucks in the queue, and 600 trucks at the Shehyni checkpoint. The movement of cars and buses is not blocked.

They (the protesters — ed.) said they would let three cars per hour both in the direction of Ukraine and those entering Poland. But over the previous day, we did not see a significant decrease in the number of vehicles, Demchenko added, commenting on the situation at the Medyka checkpoint.

Border blockade by Polish strikers

Since 6 November 2023, the movement of freight transport on the Ukrainian-Polish border has been hampered. The queues at the border are caused by strikes by Polish carriers. They demand a return to the permit system for our country.

Since 4 December, a checkpoint for empty trucks leaving Ukraine has been operating on the Ukrainian-Polish border.

Also, on 24 December, Polish protesters stopped blocking the Medyka-Shehyni checkpoint for the holidays. However, on 4 January, the blocking of the checkpoint was resumed.
