Alexander Stubb won the Finnish presidential election
Alex Stubb won the second round of the presidential election in Finland. According to the results of the voting, he received the support of 51.6 percent of voters, his opponent Pekka Haavisto — 48.4 percent.
The turnout in the second round of the presidential elections was 70.7%. In the first round, the turnout was 75%.
Alexander Stubb became the 13th president of Finland. According to Stubb, he is proud of the atmosphere of mutual respect in which the election took place.
In his opinion, security is an existential issue for Finland. He called Finland a strong member of NATO and is convinced that Finland's membership in the alliance is an advantage for NATO.
What is known about Alexander Stubb and his position on Ukraine
Alexander Stubb was the Minister of Finance of Finland (2015-2016), Prime Minister (2014-2015), Minister of Europe and Foreign Trade (2011-2014), Member of Parliament (2011-2017), Minister of Foreign Affairs (2008-2011) and a member of the European Parliament (2004-2008).
He promised that he would work for a safe, open Finland with international connections, put Finland's interests first, and be a unifying factor for the country.
During the counting of the votes, Stubb answered the journalists of the international media that the strong support of Ukraine will continue.
Even Stubb categorically disagrees that Ukraine should give up at least part of its land for peace with Russia. At the same time, he fully supports Ukraine's accession to the EU and plans to actively promote it.
