The countries of the "Group of Seven" (G7) call on Russia to stop aggression and withdraw troops from Ukraine, and also promise to introduce new anti-Russian sanctions and continue work on the use of Russian assets to help Ukraine.
The G7 countries made a statement regarding Ukraine
In their statement, the G7 countries pledged to continue to support Ukraine's right to self-defense and reaffirm their commitment to Ukraine's long-term security, including through the conclusion and implementation of agreements on security guarantees.
This was reported in the G7 statement on the second anniversary of the Russian Federation's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The G7 called on Russia to "immediately end the war of aggression" and completely and unconditionally withdraw its troops from the internationally recognized territory of Ukraine. The G7 also promised not to recognize the Russian "elections".
The G7 countries also promise to introduce new sanctions to weaken the Russian war machine, as well as to prevent the circumvention of these sanctions, in particular, with the help of third countries.
We will continue to take action against third-country actors who materially support Russia's war, including by introducing additional measures against third-country organizations where appropriate. We call on financial institutions to refrain from supporting the Russian military machine, and we will take appropriate action under our legal systems to deter such behavior.
The G7 also promised to continue work on finding ways to use the frozen assets of the Russian Federation to support Ukraine. At the same time, the G7 assured that these assets will be frozen until Russia pays for all the damage caused to Ukraine.
Zelensky was present at the G7 meeting
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, addressed the leaders of the G7 countries and called on them to provide Ukraine with all the necessary weapons and to do it on time.
The president called on the G7 leaders not to forget that imperial ambitions and revanchism disappear only after the defeat of those who are infected by them.
And this is always what opens up the space for real security and the development of democracy. We hear at this time: History is watching. And this is absolutely true, he emphasized, alluding to the words of US President Joe Biden in one of his addresses to Congress.
