The former commander of the US Army in Europe, retired General Ben Hodges predicts that the new head of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrsky is preparing very unpleasant surprises for the criminal army of the Russian Federation on the battlefield.

What changes can be expected at the front after the appointment of Sirskyi as the head of the Armed Forces

Hodges noted that the leadership of Ukraine made a very difficult decision to replace the head of the Armed Forces Valery Zaluzhny with Oleksandr Syrskyi.

"It was a difficult decision for the president because General Zaluzhny was an effective commander who was respected by soldiers and society, well known and respected by allies," said the retired US general.

He emphasized that currently President Volodymyr Zelenskyi bears full responsibility for the situation in Ukraine and his right to appoint people who know how to achieve victory in the criminal war unleashed by Russia to leading military positions.

This is not a beauty contest or a popularity contest. The President has selected the officer he deems most appropriate for this phase of the war. He's a fighter, he's experienced, he's cool. And I think that the Russians are quite unhappy to see another outstanding commander at the head of the Armed Forces, - explains Hodges.

What are they saying in the West about the consequences of Zaluzhnyi's release

Journalists of The Sunday Times point out that the dismissal of Valery Zaluzhny from the position of head of the Armed Forces and his replacement by Oleksandr Syrskyi led to the biggest drop in morale of the Ukrainian military since the start of the criminal war unleashed by Russia.

Ukraine will not lose. But now she needs help more than ever. There is a moral imperative that Ukraine must be given what it needs to win. It needs air defense, aircraft, long-range missile systems and ammunition, - the publication of the publication emphasizes.

The publication writes that Putin's complete victory is unlikely, but it is possible that Russia is preparing to intervene in the Baltic States, Moldova and even Poland.

President Zelensky's removal of the country's chief general at that moment seemed strange to the military. The most disgruntled troops have dubbed Sirsky "general cannon fodder" after the huge losses under his command in Bakhmut over the past 18 months. However, he is also credited with leading the lightning offensive of Ukraine in the Kharkiv region in the fall of 2022 and key decisions regarding the defense of Kyiv, the authors of the publication emphasize.
