Ukrainian units are withdrawn from the city of Avdiyivka and transferred to the defense on more favorable lines in order to preserve the lives of the fighters. This decision was made by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrsky.

The Armed Forces are withdrawn from Avdiivka

Syrsky noted that, based on the operational situation around Avdiyivka, in order to avoid encirclement and preserve the lives and health of servicemen, he decided to withdraw Ukrainian units from the city and move to defense on more favorable lines.

Our soldiers honorably fulfilled their military duty, did everything possible to destroy the best Russian military units, inflicted significant losses on the enemy in manpower and equipment.

Measures are being taken to stabilize the situation and maintain the occupied positions.

The life of military personnel is the highest value. We will still return Avdiivka. Glory to Ukraine!

Oleksandr Tarnavskyi, the commander of the Tavria operational-strategic group of troops, reported that Ukrainian troops left Avdiyivka for pre-prepared positions.

He noted that in a situation where "the enemy is advancing on the corpses of their own soldiers with a ten-to-one advantage of shells, under constant bombardment, this is the only correct decision."

The entourage is not allowed, the personnel has been withdrawn, our soldiers have taken up defense at the designated lines.

The situation in Avdiivka

We will remind that as of 21:00 on February 16, heavy fighting continued in the city. The enemy threw all reserves at the assault, throwing them from other directions, and tried to push through the Ukrainian defense.

Since the beginning of the day, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have repelled more than 30 Russian attacks in the Avdiivka area. The aggressor carried out 20 airstrikes and more than one and a half hundred artillery shells.

Tarnavsky reported that during one of the exits to new positions, several Ukrainian soldiers were captured.

From February 1 to 15, Russian losses in the Avdiiv direction amounted to 20,018 people, 199 tanks and 481 armored fighting vehicles.
