Taiwan and the "Union of Polish Metropolises" Foundation created a charity fund to help refugees from Ukraine in Poland. The island country immediately transferred a million dollars there.

Requests for financing from this fund can be submitted by Polish local self-government bodies and non-governmental organizations, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan's website. The selection committee will consider each application.

In particular, the money can be used for the integration of Ukrainians into the country, improvement of educational conditions, and in the future to help refugees return home.

Taiwan, which is also facing the threat of authoritarianism, continues to support the spirit of democratic solidarity and help Poland in providing humanitarian aid to Ukrainian refugees, said Wu Shannian, Taiwan's representative in Poland.

The EC proposes to extend the protection of Ukrainians in the EU

The European Commission notes that such a move will provide certainty and support for more than 4 million people who benefit from protection across the EU.

The EU Council must now adopt this Commission proposal.

We would like to remind you that the EU activated the Directive on temporary protection on March 4, 2022, by unanimous decision of the member states.

The European Commission believes that the reasons for temporary protection remain and that temporary protection should therefore be continued as a necessary response to the current unstable situation, which does not yet facilitate the safe and sustainable return of those benefiting from temporary protection in Europe.

As long as it takes, the European Union will support Ukraine. This solidarity has been embodied in providing immediate protection status for all fleeing the Russian war. Today, when the war continues, we ask the member states to come together again and extend the temporary protection for another year, said European Commission Vice President Margaritis Schinas.
