British Intelligence: Russian authorities began the rehabilitation of Wagner mercenaries after attempted munities

UK Ministry of Defence
Wagner Group

The Russian authorities undertook to rehabilitate the fighters of the "Wagner group" after the mutiny attempt and the death of PMC founder Yevheniy Prigozhin.

What is known about the rehabilitation of "Wagner" mercenaries in the Russian Federation

As noted in the summary, the Ministry of Defense of Russia has established a new system that allows "Wagner" mercenaries to receive veteran's certificates and corresponding payments.

The "Wagner" group was recently included in the management structure of the Russian Guard.

According to British intelligence, these actions most likely signal the rehabilitation of some parts of "Wagner" by the Russian authorities.

This follows a long period of uncertainty on how the authorities would regard Wagner personnel in the wake of the Wagner Group’s mutiny and abrotive “March for Justice” in June 2023, the MoD said.

"Wagner" mercenaries in Ukraine

In January, British intelligence reported that the number of the "Wagner" group on the Russian-Ukrainian front reached 50,000 people.

The "Wagner Group" was disbanded after the rebellion of mercenary leader Yevgeny Prigozhin in June 2023.

According to British intelligence, hundreds of militants previously associated with the "Wagner" group began to relocate to Ukraine individually and in small groups to participate in the war as part of various Russian units.
