During the air alert in Kyiv on December 22, the ceiling collapsed due to a burst pipe in the school's shelter built in 1981, when children were there. As a result of the incident, no one was injured.

Deputy Minister for Strategic Industries of Ukraine Timur Tkachenko added that the event's details are already being established. Shortly, an investigative and operative group will work and conduct an examination.
We were in this shelter very recently — right after its renovation, which was done with the non-budget funds of the charitable foundation. As you can see, we need to approach security much more carefully! Tkachenko added.

Subsequently, the Kyiv Municipal Military Administration (KMMA) specified that the accident occurred in the shelter of one of the schools in the Solomyanskyi district of Kyiv. There, the valve of the heating battery broke.
The ceiling in this shelter is of the "armstrong" type — with light plates that quickly absorbed water and swelled. As a result of a significant increase in weight due to water, a segment of the suspended ceiling collapsed, the KMMA had explained.
An official investigation will be conducted due to the incident. The shelter is now being examined and prepared for repair. The contracting organization undertook to eliminate the consequences of the accident by the morning of Monday, December 25, with extra-budgetary money.
The city authorities, districts' leaders of Kyiv and those directly responsible for shelters are making every effort to ensure that all civil defense facilities are safe. No one is immune from extraordinary situations, but we will do everything possible to minimize the risks of such accidents in the future ... After the repair, the shelter passed the inspection, the KMMA assured in the message.
