According to Georgian leader Salome Zurabishvili, Georgia, Ukraine, and Moldova will become members of the European Union at the same time.
Zurabishvili believes in large-scale simultaneous expansion of the EU
Journalists asked the president whether she is considering the scenario of Georgia's accession to the European Union after Ukraine.
According to Salome Zurabishvili, it will happen simultaneously.
No, I think it will happen simultaneously. Whether it will happen in 2030, 2031 or 2029, I do not know, but this horizon will be the next, as they say "big bangs", the next members will enter approximately together. We are a trio, Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia, and we have this trio created, the President of Georgia stressed.
According to her, the idea of the head of the European Council, Charles Michel, about the year 2030 as a potential horizon of new expansion is “exciting”.
Step-by-step association of candidate countries in the EU thematically, on those issues for which they are ready. For example, transport for Georgia, issues of transport and infrastructure on the Black Sea, are very interesting for us. Of course, without the right to vote, but this preliminary association will better prepare the candidates to what awaits them at the appropriate moment, Zurabishvili added.
The European Union announced an unprecedented accelerated membership procedure for Ukraine
Recently, official Brussels proposed to carry out the procedure of Ukraine's accession according to a new order.
According to preliminary data, it will help shorten the period between negotiations and the direct granting of membership.
The new procedure envisages holding negotiations on technical issues related to accession at the same time as consideration of all related political issues, the message says.
It is also impossible not to mention that the EU had a phased negotiation procedure before this.
