On Sunday, December 31, as of 10:50 a.m., it became known that the number of dead in Kyiv had increased to 21. Rescuers retrieved the bodies of two more people from under the rubble.

In total, Russia attacked 16 regions during the day. Khmelnytskyi, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, Kyiv, Luhansk, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhya, Zhytomyr, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Kherson were hit.

In total, the enemy fired 158 targets. Critical infrastructure, and industrial and military facilities were attacked.

January 1 was declared a mourning day in Kyiv.

At first, the occupiers traditionally attacked with "Shaheds" from the north and south-east direction, with further movement in the west direction. A total of 36 "Shahed-136/131" kamikaze drones were recorded. Around 3:00 a.m., the enemy launched strategic aircraft into the air, there were the Tu-95MS bombers. A total of 18 planes entered the launch line around 6:00 a.m. and launched no less than 90 Kh-101/Kh-555/Kh-55 air-based cruise missiles, AFU Commander-in-Chief Valerii Zalyzhnyi reported.

According to the preliminary results, the enemy used 158 means of air attack against Ukraine this night: missiles of various types and shock air defense systems.

Forces and means of the Air Force, in cooperation with units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine, destroyed:

  • 27 Shahed-136/131 kamikaze drones;

  • 87 Kh-101/Kh-555/Kh-55 cruise missiles.

At least 18 were killed, and 132 were injured. Before that, according to preliminary data from the Minister of Internal Affairs, at least 12 people were killed and 76 were wounded.
