What is known about the Russian missile attack on Kyiv and the region on December 29

On December 29, Russia launched a massive missile attack on Ukraine. The fragments of downed missiles damaged buildings in Kyiv's Sviatoshynskyi, Darnytskyi, Podilskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts. On the day of the missile attack, nine people were killed and 30 injured.

A warehouse caught fire in the Podilskyi district of the capital due to shelling by the Russian Federation. At 12:05, the fire was extinguished in an area of 4,000 square meters.

A fire broke out in a 14-story living house, an uninhabited new building in the Sviatoshynskyi district. At another address, three cars caught fire.

Warehouses also burned in the Shevchenkivskyi district. The blast wave also damaged the upper lobby of the Lukyanivska metro station. The area of Yurii Illienko Str., the business centre building and non-residential premises were damaged. Rescuers extinguished all fires.

On Saturday, December 30, at the site of destroyed warehouses in the Shevchenkivskyi district, the bodies of eight more victims were found, and the total number of victims of Russian shelling increased to 17. In Kyiv, January 1 was declared a mourning day.

As of the evening of January 1, 2024, the number of people killed as a result of the Russian missile attack on December 29 increased to 29.

In the Kyiv region, as a result of a rocket attack on December 29, one civilian was wounded, 17 residential buildings, 12 cars, a school and an administrative building were damaged, the Kyiv Regional Military Administration reported.

In addition, on January 3, emergency and rescue operations were completed in Kyiv after a massive enemy attack, which had been ongoing since December 29.
