Over 750,000 people crossed the Ukrainian border during the pre-Christmas week, most of them — almost 394,000 — to enter Ukraine.

What was the situation at the border on Christmas Eve

As noted, on December 23, more than 141,500 people crossed the state border. At the same time, almost 80,000 crossed the Ukrainian-Polish border.

The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (SBGS) noted that this is one of the highest indicators of passenger flow across the state border of Ukraine after the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation. For example, in 2022, 19,200 fewer people crossed the state border of Ukraine on the day before Christmas Eve.

The department also emphasised that the passenger traffic decreased before Christmas but remains high. Thus, on December 24, 2023, more than 111,000 people were registered at the border, of which more than 66,000 were for entry.

Considering that the Christmas and New Year holidays are going on in many countries where Ukrainians temporarily live, the number of people crossing the border may remain high. We emphasise that the largest passenger flow is recorded at checkpoints on the border with Poland. We recommend that travelers, if possible, take routes through checkpoints that are less busy, the SBGS added.

The protest finished on December 24 at 09:30.

Registration and border crossing of cargo vehicles in the direction of entry into Ukraine is carried out as usual.

The border guards work together with the employees of the control services to ensure the passage of the maximum number of trucks.

Drivers are asked to take this information into account when planning international transportation.

Ukraine may soon join the EU

According to the Lithuanian diplomat, accession by 2030 is "the deadline."

We need to set this deadline and count down the deadlines for all the other important decisions that need to be made.

Despite this, the head of Lithuanian diplomacy cherishes the hope that Ukraine can join the European family much faster.

We believe that you can do this by 2030. That is why we are so committed to this, because you inspire us with your dedication and motivation,” Budris emphasized.

The Lithuanian Foreign Minister also drew attention to the fact that his country is investing the best knowledge and experience from its own EU accession process to help Ukraine.

That is why she is among the initiators of the Ukraine2EU project, which was officially launched in Ukraine on April 1.

Ukraine2EU is co-funded by the EU, Denmark and Lithuania, and was recently joined by Sweden.

The main goal of this program is to support Ukrainian institutions in managing the EU accession process and implementing the necessary reforms.
