According to the editors of The Economist magazine, in 2024, the world will face a sharp increase in defence spending, as well as the global introduction of artificial intelligence.

What to expect from 2024 in the economic arena

The publication's team singled out ten global economic trends for the following year.

First, we are talking about artificial intelligence (AI), which can be safely considered a real technological revolution.

Even though neural networks do not bring profits, this may happen shortly.

In addition, The Economist draws attention to the fact that Central Banks are starting to lower interest rates against the background of slow price growth.

What is essential to understand is that despite a global inflation rate of 5%, consumers tend to save money. In addition, high demand for infrastructure increases investment in Asian markets by 4%.

Efforts to slow climate change push renewable energy consumption up 11% to a new high, with non-renewable fuels still powering 4/5 of the industry. The electric car market is also growing, in particular, thanks to government support. Today, 1 in 4 cars produced will be electric.

The publication also notes that more and more funds are beginning to be spent on health care. It is about 10% of world GDP.

In addition, it is emphasized that International tourism had a record revenue of 1.5 trillion dollars in 2023. It is noteworthy that people continue to actively travel even when the geopolitical situation in the world is rapidly deteriorating.

Due to the practice of working from home, 20% of American offices are empty. To a lesser extent, this applies to the EU, where this indicator is around 8%. Growth is also recorded by the advertising industry, in anticipation of the presidential elections in the United States and the summer Olympic Games in Paris.

The war in Ukraine affects the future of the world

Also, according to journalists, the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian war will push countries worldwide to spend more on defence.

According to the publication, next year will focus on geopolitics, tense relations between Washington and Beijing, and the war in Ukraine.
