As journalists managed to find out, official Brussels has already made a decision that allows sanctions against Russian citizens to remain on the relevant lists even after their death.
EU sanctions against Russians may apply even after their death
The journalists point out that many Russian oligarchs who have been subjected to sanctions are currently trying to challenge them in courts, and open lobbying on this issue is now illegal.
Furthermore, as it turned out, on 18 December, the EU ruled that even the death of a sanctioned person does not necessarily mean automatic removal from the sanctions list and unfreezing of assets.
The "death" of the PMC Wagner's former leade, Prigozhin, prompted the EU to make such a decision
According to one of the publication's insiders, this step by official Brussels was indeed very important, as the automatic system of removing the dead from the lists that had been in place until now had caused concern.
It is important to understand that the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine has not yet confirmed the information about the death of Yevgeny Prigozhin.
As mentioned earlier, the son of former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, Kremlin propagandists, defence and military enterprises and the military were included in the lists of the latest 12th sanctions package.
