During the month, the European Union plans to deliver almost 170,000 shells to Ukraine and is working on further increasing the volume of artillery ammunition.

The EU will provide Ukraine with a large batch of artillery shells

By the end of March, the European Union will transfer almost 170,000 artillery shells to Ukraine.

This was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, after a meeting with the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell.

Artillery shells are the absolute priority now. By the end of March, the EU plans to deliver almost 170,000 shells to Ukraine and is working on further increasing the volume of supplies.

Kuleba noted that at the meeting he thanked Borrell for his personal leadership and support over the past two years, in particular, for the historic decisions to provide arms to Ukraine, the introduction of sanctions against Russia, the start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU, and support for the peace formula.

Many improvements and solutions are yet to come, and we are working together to ensure they are adopted quickly.

Shortage of artillery shells in the Armed Forces: what is known

Currently, due to problems with supplies from the USA, the shortage of artillery shells in the Armed Forces directly affects the situation at the front. In particular, recently the Ukrainian army had to retreat from Avdiivka.

However, the European Union promised to help Ukraine with shells. At the beginning of May 2023, the Council of the EU approved a decision on aid for Ukraine in the amount of one billion euros for the joint procurement of ammunition and missiles.

It was planned that European countries would provide Ukraine with one million shells by March 2024. However, the EU could not meet the planned deadlines, so it continues to work on this issue.

In February, Czech President Petr Pavel said that Prague had found 800,000 shells for Ukraine abroad, but needed help with financing to ensure this supply.

And the other day, Britain and Spain announced packages of military support, which will include artillery shells.
