The European Union will be able to produce up to 2 million artillery ammunition for Ukraine annually from 2025.
The EU promises 2 million artillery shells to Ukraine every year
According to the European Commissioner for Finance Johannes Hahn, by March (when the EU promised to transfer one million shells to Ukraine), European countries will be able to transfer up to half a million ammunition.
At the same time, Gan emphasized that the production capacity of the EU is expanding, so next year they will be able to produce up to 2 million shells.
The European Commissioner admitted that the EU could not fulfill the promise of a million artillery ammunition for Ukraine due to production problems.
Ammunition has always been produced only according to demand. That's why we've cut a lot of production capacity in the past, and now we're having to ramp it up again, Hahn said.
What is known about ammunition to Ukraine from the EU
At the beginning of January, the European Commission expressed confidence that the EU will be able to produce a million rounds of ammunition for Ukraine by the spring of this year, despite the fact that the process has slowed down.
But in fact, the EU admitted that they would be able to supply Ukraine with only more than 500,000 shells instead of the promised million by March.
At a meeting in Brussels at the end of January, the defense ministers of the EU countries agreed that they would fulfill their promise to supply Ukraine with one million artillery pieces of ammunition, but later than planned.
