According to Oleksandr Kovalenko, a military and political analyst at the Information Resistance group, if the deadline for the capture of Avdiivka in the Donetsk Oblast region fails, the Russian criminal army plans to intensify its offensive in the Vuhledar area.

What is known about the plans of the Russian army in case of a failed offensive in the Avdiivka area

The expert predicted the intensification of hostilities in the Vuhledar area in the near future, stressing that this is actually a backup plan of the occupation army in case of failure in the Avdiivka area.

We see Russians intensifying their activity in many areas. Near Bakhmut, we see the enemy intensifying both in the western location and in the southern location, in the direction of Klishchiivka and Andriivka. Combat actions are also intensifying in the area of Maryinka. In the near future, I am sure, the fighting near Vuhledar will intensify. That is, a fairly wide front has intensified in some locations. And this can be called a backup plan for the Russian command. If they are unable to complete the task of capturing Avdiivka before the New Year or the so-called elections in Russia, they will have the opportunity to achieve some success in some of these areas, the analyst said.

He also noted that Russian war criminals cannot launch an offensive in the direction of Kupiansk in Kharkiv region until they capture Synkivka.

However, according to Kovalenko, the key contingency plan for criminals from the Russian army is to intensify hostilities in the Vuhledar area.

This is a really tactically important location for the Russians today. All the others have purely political aspects, the analyst stressed.

What is known about the situation in the south of Ukraine

According to a former spokesman for the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), Ivan Stupak, the Ukrainian military has set up three bridgeheads on the left bank of the Dnipro River in Kherson region and is trying to push Russian war criminals as far as possible.

On the left bank of the Kherson region, there are three footholds of Ukrainian troops. They are still small. Their main task is to repel the Russians as far away from the city of Kherson as possible to minimise shelling. The Russian army is shelling Kherson randomly with rockets and shells — a residential building, a kindergarten, a road, forest belts. Then unite the three footholds and move on. It will be a very good result if our troops are able to reach the town of Skadovsk, ideally the town of Armyansk. As our military say, it's incredibly difficult to predict anything, because something changes every day, Stupak explained on Svoboda TV channel.
