According to the British publication The Guardian, the government of Ukraine intends to change the practice of conscription. It could happen as early as this week.

Conscription in Ukraine: what changes to expect

According to one of the journalists' insiders, a high-ranking Ukrainian official, it is primarily about using commercial recruiting companies to carry out a more targeted recruitment.

In addition, it is emphasized that conscripts can choose areas of service that will correspond to their skills.

The Secretary of the NSDC of Ukraine, Oleksiy Danilov, told The Guardian that the Armed Forces of Ukraine would cooperate with the country's two largest recruitment companies to identify people with specific skills, as well as to discourage qualified Ukrainians who want to help the army but do not want to go to the front from trying to evade the draft.

Mobilization will become more flexible, those specialties that are needed will be announced, and people will apply for a specific position. For example, they need welders or locksmiths and so on, Oleksiy Danilov explained to journalists.

Zelenskyy's decision on conscription

As mentioned earlier, on November 24, Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy instructed the head of the Ministry of Defense Rustem Umierov, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valerii Zaluzhnyy and the ministries to develop a comprehensive plan for the military conscription by next week.

There will be a comprehensive plan on this issue next week. I really believe that next week, at least the question will be put to both Zaluzhnyy and Umierov, the ministers, so they will report everything comprehensively next week, the president said then.

On the same day, Oleksiy Danilov officially announced that conscripts whose term of service has already expired will soon be demobilized.

As for the mobilization of the people who were in military service, the president asked and the military agreed that these people will be demobilized in the near future. This process will take place and we understand how many there are, the Secretary of the NSDC added.
