Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi plans to arrive in Moscow with a delegation on December 7.
What is known about the visit
As the Iranian mass media reported, Raisi will go to Moscow at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Iran's president plans to hold "consultations on bilateral issues, including economic relations, as well as regional and international issues, especially the Palestinian issue and events in Gaza."
As the publication emphasizes, this is Raisi's second visit to Russia.
What is known about cooperation between Iran and the Kremlin
Iran and Russia have signed significant agreements in the military sphere. According to Tasnim media, the Iranian Air Force received the first Russian-made Yak-130 training aircraft in September.
The Yak-130 is a subsonic two-seater jet trainer and light combat aircraft. It is supposed to help Iranian military pilots to be trained to fly new fighter jets, such as the Su-57.
In July, the US State Department announced that the military partnership between Russia and Iran is deepening.
A week ago, the United States expressed fears that Iran was preparing to provide Russia with advanced short-range ballistic missiles to wage war against Ukraine.
Journalists cite periodic reports suggesting that Iran already has Russian S-400 air defense systems, more advanced than the S-300PMU-2, which Moscow transferred to Tehran in 2016 as part of a delayed contract initially signed in 2007.
In 2015, there were widespread rumours that Iran would take advantage of the opportunity to purchase 300 T-90 main battle tanks from Russia for its regular army.
For Moscow, the sale of these high-end weapons will prove that it can still secure new arms export contracts despite the numerous supply chain problems it has faced since the invasion of Ukraine.
