The Federation Council of the Russian Federation has set the date of presidential elections. They will take place on March 17, 2024.

The date of the Russian elections is known

The Russian presidential election will be held on March 17, 2024. On December 8, the Central Election Commission of Russia (CEC) will review the draft resolution on voting in the elections within three days. The CEC chief, Ella Pamfilova, reported about it.

According to Russian regulations, presidential elections are called by the Federation Council no earlier than 100 days and no later than 90 days before the day of voting.

What is known about the elections in the Russian Federation

Earlier, Reuters reported that Vladimir Putin has decided to run in the March presidential elections, allowing him to remain in power until at least 2030.

Putin, who Boris Yeltsin handed over the presidency on the last day of 1999, has already served as president longer than any other Russian ruler since Joseph Stalin, surpassing even Leonid Brezhnev's 18-year rule. Putin turned 71 on October 7.

Five residents of Russia have already announced their intention to become candidates, including war criminal Ihor Girkin, who is being held in prison, former State Duma MP from the Union of Right Forces Boris Nadezhdin and journalist Katerina Duntsova. At the same time, their admission depends entirely on the Kremlin.

The Kremlin spokesperson, Dmitriy Peskov, said that Putin would be re-elected for the next term with more than 90% of the votes.
