According to US and Ukrainian officials, the US and Ukrainian military commanders have begun searching for a new strategy of war against the Russian Federation to be implemented in 2024.

Ukraine's new strategy in the war

The NYT writes that the search for a new strategy provoked a months-long counter-offensive by Ukraine that failed to achieve the goal of regaining the territories occupied by Russia.

The United States steps up its personal military advice to Ukraine by sending a three-star general to Kyiv.

The US and Ukrainian militaries say they hope to work out the details of the new strategy next month during a series of military exercises scheduled for Wiesbaden, Germany.

The Americans insist on a conservative strategy that focuses on holding the territory held by Ukraine by digging in and building up supplies and forces throughout the year.

The United States believes that this strategy will increase Ukraine's self-sufficiency and help Kyiv withstand any new Russian offensive.

The goal is to create a real enough threat to Russia that it will consider engaging in meaningful negotiations late next year or in 2025.

The Ukrainians, on the other hand, want to attack either from the ground or with long-range strikes, hoping to attract the world's attention.

According to US officials, without a new strategy and additional funding, Ukraine could lose the war.

Russia's strategy in the war against Ukraine

After its unsuccessful offensive on Kyiv in 2022, the Russian army began to change its strategy and restore its strength.

According to US officials, Moscow now has more troops, ammunition and missiles, and has increased its firepower with the help of combat drones, many of which are supplied by Iran.

Biden administration officials say Putin is betting on a decline in American support, pointing to his recent statements that if Ukraine runs out of NATO-supplied ammunition, Russia will win in a matter of days.
